The best at-home facial massage is one that focuses on relaxation, lymphatic drainage, and blood circulation.
If you think you need to go to an expensive salon to get back that youthful glow and to really take care of your skin, think again. Don’t get me wrong, I love the experience of going to a spa and indulging in a fabulous facial. Facials can improve your skin’s tone, and texture not to mention they are extremely relaxing. (relaxation is the key word for me) But if a visit to a spa is not in your immediate future or you are simply looking for a way to stretch out the time between facials, I have some tips for the best at-home facial massage.
A facial massage does have many benefits to your skin however there are some limitations. For example, it will not change your bone structure. Dermatologists believe there is not enough scientific data available to confirm that facial massage works. However, plenty of devotees practice facial massage regularly and swear by its benefits.
The benefits of a facial massage:
- Improves lymphatic drainage which will de-puff the skin.
- Increases circulation resulting in a youthful glow
- Gives an immediate
- Can be done at home
- Reduces stress and is relaxing
- Helps with tension headaches
What tools are needed for a facial massage?
- Your own two hands
- A facial roller if you wish. I use one made of Rose Quartz because it is believed to promote feelings of self-love and helps to balance the heart chakra. (as a bonus, it comes with a Gua Sha stone)
- Natural facial oil or serum. (I use a dry sheer oil with Omega Fatty Acids 3 and 6 and antioxidants)
How to do a facial massage:
~You can find many helpful videos online on how to do a facial massage, but here are a few spa-worthy tips!
- Wash hands and then face
- Pat dry face gently
- Warm a little of your nourishing facial oil between the palms of your hands
- Pat on oil from palms over face and begin to massage in circular motions to start with
- Be sure to massage the lymph areas (found under the ears and along the sides of the neck) with long strokes upwards and out, using your hand from the opposite side of the neck you are working on
- You will want to use a firm touch but not too hard
- Massage the sides of your face and forward with a wide circular motion and be sure to go upwards and out. (never down)
Massaging the eye area
- Be careful not to tug or drag
- Gently tap around your eyes to increase blood flow
- Massage the muscle above your eyebrow, your eyelids, and under your eye.
The skin around the eye area is delicate, so you will want to use a little extra oil when massaging here. Massaging the area around the eyes helps to alleviate puffy eyes resulting in a more rested and youthful appearance.
If I have an extra 20 minutes, I go all out and do my facial massage while soaking my feet in a detox foot bath. Put on some relaxing music, light a candle and poof! You feel like you are at the spa. (well almost)
I wish you a peaceful and beautiful day,
