The holidays can create lasting memories and bring friends and family together. It can be the most magical and beautiful time of the year. Don’t miss a moment of it by feeling unwell or getting sick.
As soon as November rolls into December, our calendars fill up quickly with holiday social events. There are office parties, visits with loved ones, Christmas Teas and holiday home tours and so much more. (like all the shopping and trying to think of the perfect gift to give)
How to stay healthy this holiday:
Show me your hands, please
Don’t worry, I am not going to remind you to wash your hands because you are doing that already, right? So this is a reminder for all the others that may not be as diligent as they once were. The simple fact is, hand washing plays a big part in staying healthy. If you have set aside your hand sanitizer, bring it back out and use it frequently. I keep one in my purse, and my car, and of course, I wash my hands the second I return home.
Boost your immunity!
Give your immune system some love and support. I make myself a smoothie loaded with protein, my greens, fiber, and healthy fat right before leaving the house. When you have a nutritionally dense meal, you will not only feel satisfied longer, but you are also giving your immune system a boost. Everyone in my house takes an immunity booster supplement pretty much all year long. Eat your veggies and be sure to get enough protein.
Stress less
My first advice in stressful times is always to get outside and walk in nature. Bundle up if you need to but get outside even if the sky is grey and you have a long to-do list. A 15 to 20-minute walk in nature can do wonders for lowering your stress levels and bringing a sense of clarity. Leave your phone in your pocket and earbuds at home and give your brain a rest. My other favorite way to reset is a time-out. Sit quietly with a cup of your favorite herbal tea (click on favorite herbal tea and use Arbonne10 for 10% off if you want to give it a try. It is my all-time favorite tea with soothing and tummy-comforting benefits) for ten minutes or so.
Just say no!
You may need to hear this. (I did) There is no rule that you must attend every event you are invited to. Choose the events that mean the most to you. Politely decline the rest. It is ok to stay home, put your feet up and enjoy your holiday decorations. (if you choose to decorate. You do not actually have to do that either) Save your energy for treasured family traditions and spending time with the ones we love.
The good news is, we do not have to wait until New Year’s Eve to make changes or take time out for personal reflection. We can start today!
If you have a tip for making the holiday season merry and calm, I would love to hear it.
I wish you a happy and healthy holiday season full of peace and all good things.
