S'mores Bars

This cherished recipe comes from Paula Dean and is always a big hit. This is everything a S'more is and so much more. It travels well so it is the perfect dessert to show up with at a picnic, barbecue, or gathering.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ⅓ cup all purpose flour
  • ¾ cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 5 Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bars
  • 1 7 oz Marshmallow creme also called marshmallow fluff

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 °F. Lightly grease an 8-inch baking pan
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar at medium speed, until creamy.
  • Add egg and vanilla, beat until combined.
  • In a small bowl, combine flour, graham cracker crumbs, baking powder, and salt. Add to butter mixture, and beat until combined.
  • Press half of dough into the pan, spreading evenly.
  • Lay chocolate bar on top of dough, breaking apart as needed to create an even layer of chocolate.
  • Spread marshmallow creme over chocolate bars.
  • Spread remaining dough over marshmallow creme and chocolate bars.
  • Bake 30 to 35 minutes until lightly golden on top. Do not overtake.
  • Allow to cool before slicing into squares

Notes

Who can resist the tasty combination of marshmallow, chocolate, and graham crackers? S'more Bars are the perfect ending to a summer barbecue, picnic, or party. I make them all year round because they are easy to make, transport, and everyone loves them!
My advice? Do not skimp on the chocolate bars or the marshmallow creme. Use full bars and cover every inch and then really pile on the marshmallow.
Enjoy!
